A Fistful of Dice Demo night

Yesterday was A Fistful of Dice grand opening and i was lucky enough to be allowed to set up a table to demo Infinity throughout the day :)

The event went really well and alot of people got to try Infinity for their first time. A few even picked some starter sets which was ace. A Fistful of Dice is looking set to be an awesome store too. It was nice to see a wide variety of games stocked pluss an actual gaming room out the back withy plenty of tables :)

Great Gribbly Gobbily!

Soooo, got an email form Forge World today containing this sneak peak Nid pic.

The last 40k army i had was Nids. If this turns out to be some sort of Knight Titan equivalent Nid beastie i may have to pick up a couple and start playing 40k again.

Time will tell...

TTC Sci Fi Scenics Large & Small Walls

Continuing my series of reviews of The Troll Trader's TTCombat Sci Fi Scenics Kickstarter terrain I'll now take a look at the Large wall kit followed by the Small Wall kit.

This kit makes good use of layering up the MDF to create some cool shapes.
Above you can see the base of the wall assembled. Note the groove for sitting the signs into.
The top of the wall with its light fixtures ready to be attached. This acts like a cap that sits on top of the sign and slots into the lower structure of the wall.
I'm really impressed with the size of this, as you can see from the picture it's massive. Plenty of things could easily use this as cover while battling it out on your table :)

The extra blank sign you get is a brilliant idea. It will allow you to make up your own signs if you wish, or maybe create some sort of vid screen. I backed TT Combats snappy stencils Kickstarter earlier this year so think I'll be making good use of those on this part.

Overall I think this is one of my favourite pieces in the range so far, The design is very smart and having the ability to swap in and out signs ( and with more acrylic signs now available on the Kickstarter ) simply by removing the top of the wall is really good.

To buy this off the Kickstarter as is would cost you £8 as it comprises of two sheets of MDF. Brilliant value in my opinion. I will definitely be getting more of these.

Small walls

The small walls come in sets of 3 per sheet and one sheet is currently £6 on the Kickstarter, You can get two for £8 though so I'd prob go for that if i was after some of these as its a good deal. Each wall works out at just under 4 inches long.

Assembly wise these go together very well and again make good use of layering MDF up to create a good solid structure.

Overall this is a nice little set and when you consider you can get 6 of them for £8 ( on KS ) I think they're very affordable. The design ties in well with the other kits such as the Alpha building and Shipping Containers although i personally would have liked the walls to be slightly taller, but that's just me.

Until next time.

Saturday 21 June 2014

Following on from my first look at the TT Combat Sci Fi Scenics currently on Kickstarter I thought I'd have a look at the Alpha and Beta Buildings.

This kit goes together in a similar fashion to the Shipping Containers. Four outer walls slot together and attach to the floor. After that you insert the four inner walls via the slots in the floor. Once again the doors are laser cut so you can remove them if you wish.

The last step is to the add the roof and hey presto its built. I like the fact the kit has a laser etched floor as well as roof, a lot of other terrain company skip that and leave the floor bare.

The design of the building is nice, the laser cut walls and detail give it a nice sci fi look and i like the corner extrusions as they provide some nice additional cover. There's also little attachments for what looks like signs that go above the doors and windows. No doubt we'll see some acrylic add ons appear in the Kickstarter later.

Like the Storage Containers this stacks up nicely with other buildings thanks to the design of the outer walls.

Once again my only niggle about the kit would be that some of the laser etched details are quite wiggly. I suspect this should be ironed out in the Kickstarter though.

The Beta building once again follows the previous examples in the first step of construction, four outer walls slotting together and connected to the nice laser etched floor. The only difference being the addition of two supports either side of each door.

There are no interior walls for this, which at first i thought was a shame as i thought the windows could do with some more detail. All soon became clear those as i added the outer details.

As you can see the long what I'm going to call blast shields cover the windows. I personally didn't glue the middle strip on so it could be removed, possibly representing some one inside opening it to survey the surrounding area.
With the "blast shields" attached the last step was to stick the roof on to finish off the build. Once again i didn't glue the roof in place as getting access tot he interior is a must :)

Again this follows a similar style to the Alpha building with the specially shaped walls to allow stacking of other buildings on top easily. I really liked the shape of this building too, I had images of Hadley's Hope from Aliens popping into my head when i placed that Spetnaz around the building. Once again wiggly line syndrome as the only niggle.

When you combine the Alpha and Beta buildings you get some pretty interesting visuals :) The top picture reminds me of a store and i can imagine the "blast shields" being covered in holo ads etc. The bottom picture strikes me with a more outpost feel. I'm really looking forward to getting more of these and playing around.

Currently these take up 4 sheets of mdf each on the Kickstarter which equates to £15 if you buy four straight. A great price again IMO if you compare similarly sized buildings from other companies.

I have two more of these i intend to build, film and post on youtube so I'll get a link up to them as soon as its done :)

Until next time.

TT Combats Sci Fi scenics

The guys over at the The Troll Trader have sent me a few samples of their new Sci Fi terrain currently doing very well on Kickstarter. They've already had a succesful Wild west themed terrain kickstarter and i was looking forward to the day they'd get stuck into Sci Fi as i can always do with some more scenery for Infinity :)

So; I thought i'd do a little review of each of the pieces they sent me to give you guys a feel for what the range is like.

To start with i had a go assembling the Shipping Containers, They come in packs of 5 for £10 which seems very reasonable.

This is the basic layout of the containers on the sheet.

Construction is pretty straight forward, Its a simple matter of slotting the four walls together and then attaching the floor of the container to the walls. After that you insert the inner walls/doors. One of the doors is laser cut so you can have it open if you wish. Last step is to insert the roof of the container. As you can see in the picture below the roof/floor attaches to the rest of the structure via the corner fixtures. Also notice how the shape of the frame interlocks with other crate, a nice touch. The only niggle i found with the kit is that some of the laser cut detail is a little wiggly in places but it's hard to spot unless your nose to nose with it.

I highly reccomend not glueing in the roof as its nice to be able to place models inside, especially in Infinity games.

The containers look good in numbers, They don't sit flush together side by side due to their shape and it creates some interesting lines of fire.

If you stack them up side ways you get a nice solid block of them, when set like this i can't help be reminded of some sort of holding cell for a nasty alien or maybe those holding cages for raptors from the start of Jurassic Park :)

I toyed around with the structure a bit and noticed you can make some pretty cool little look outs by not putting the inner walls in. It's nice that the kit gives you some options to think about instead of just one way you have to build it.

Overall, I've been very impressed with the kit, at £10 for 5 your getting alot for your money IMO. These are not just simple rectangles and have some nice details. Build wise this is probably the easiest MDF kit i've put together and you can literally build one of these in minutes.

If you dream of your own shipping container board, or are looking for some decent scatter terrain then i highly recommend.

Standby for more from Sci Fi Scenics...
