TT Combat Sci Fi Scenics Part 5

Moving on from the last post I'll now get stuck into the last of the preview stuff i received, The generator and Walkways kits.

Generator:

This kit took me a little while to get my head around but once i did i found it goes together in really intelligent way and looks great once finished.

Starting off with the central supports for the kit you add the small semi circular gear type pieces to it as above.

Followed by the two large semi circular gears. Once that's done you add in the cooling veins ( as i call them ) by slotting them into the inner and outer gear notches accordingly.
It should look like the above once done. You can then add the detail panel to the flat side of the generator as shown as well as the semi circular arch of wood to the edge of that panel for a bit of depth. Note the Generator i received was a miscut as you can tell by the off centre laser etching visible above. Don't expect the finished retail products to look like that lol.
The other side is a little bit more time consuming and involves slotting the small rectangles of wood into the side of the generator then attaching the outer flat semi circle of wood to those rectangles. I'm guessing that is meant to be the turbine on the generator or something equally technical :)

After that it's just a case of adding the semi circle arch of wood to the flat edge and the small cog detail you can see in  the middles of the panel.

This is probably the most complex of the kits I've built so far but the end result is really good in my opinion. Some very clever thought and design has went into creating this complex piece and looks great on the table top :)

Walkways:

No Sci Fi setting would be complete with out a good set of walkways for people to clamber over shoot from and fall off lol.

This kit gives you some pretty decent options when putting it together. You can set the walkways up to reach the first or second floor of the other buildings in the range depending on how you assemble them. For this build i decided to go with one first and one second floor walkway so i could play around with the layout and test things.
The railings on the side of the walkways are simple 3 part pieces needing a drop of glue to assemble. If you choose not to stick them to the walkways just keep in mind their a little loose so may fall off if you give them a knock from time to time.

The small square walkways are good for connecting the second story walkways to ground level and vice verca. Likewise they also help create some more elaborate setups on the table. Included in the kit are some clips to help attach each segment of walkway together.

The stairs in the kit are simple to assemble and involve slotting the steps into the frames at either end and then adding the hand rails. They come in two different styles, one with connections at each end for connecting different floors, and the other with connections at the top and a flat end at the other for sitting flush with the ground.

One issue i noticed with the kit is it doesn't work well with the B building, It's certainly playable but doesn't marry up to the B like it does with the A, as you can see the A building has connectors above the centre points of each outer wall to aid connecting up the walkways and buildings.

The walkways also pair up with the Shipping Containers very well and you can create some very cool slum like or construction yard areas depending on how you paint them :) Yay for variety and options :D

Overall, some excellent walkways, yes joints could be a little tighter in places but the kit gels well with the rest of the range and you can get a lot of variety from the kit depending on how you assemble it :)

TT Combat Sci Fi Scenics continued

Right here's the rest of the stuff i got sent from Troll Trader, Thought I'd best get it up before the Kickstarter ends :)

First up is the C Building:

The C building follows the same construction technique as the A and B buildings with the four outer walls slotting together before being attached to the floor panel.

After that The inner walls are then added as well as the outer wall walkway/ ladder attachments.
The last parts to attach and something which makes the C stand out from it's A and B brothers, are the little support type parts that attach at either side of the doors. Again like everything in the kit it's just a simple matter of slotting them into the relevant holes with a little glue to keep them fixed in position.
Once that's done, stick the roof on and voila, it's ready for some tabletop shoot outs :)
The C building works perfectly with the A and B types simply slotting on top of the others thanks to the recurring design in the shape of the outer walls.
Once again this is a nice, simple to assemble kit which ties in well with rest of the available buildings. The change in shape adds some nice variety to the table and increases the options you'll have when making your own tabletop cities and outposts :)

Great Gribbly Gobbily!

Soooo, got an email form Forge World today containing this sneak peak Nid pic.

The last 40k army i had was Nids. If this turns out to be some sort of Knight Titan equivalent Nid beastie i may have to pick up a couple and start playing 40k again.

Time will tell...

TTC Sci Fi Scenics Large & Small Walls

Continuing my series of reviews of The Troll Trader's TTCombat Sci Fi Scenics Kickstarter terrain I'll now take a look at the Large wall kit followed by the Small Wall kit.

This kit makes good use of layering up the MDF to create some cool shapes.
Above you can see the base of the wall assembled. Note the groove for sitting the signs into.
The top of the wall with its light fixtures ready to be attached. This acts like a cap that sits on top of the sign and slots into the lower structure of the wall.
I'm really impressed with the size of this, as you can see from the picture it's massive. Plenty of things could easily use this as cover while battling it out on your table :)

The extra blank sign you get is a brilliant idea. It will allow you to make up your own signs if you wish, or maybe create some sort of vid screen. I backed TT Combats snappy stencils Kickstarter earlier this year so think I'll be making good use of those on this part.

Overall I think this is one of my favourite pieces in the range so far, The design is very smart and having the ability to swap in and out signs ( and with more acrylic signs now available on the Kickstarter ) simply by removing the top of the wall is really good.

To buy this off the Kickstarter as is would cost you £8 as it comprises of two sheets of MDF. Brilliant value in my opinion. I will definitely be getting more of these.

Small walls

The small walls come in sets of 3 per sheet and one sheet is currently £6 on the Kickstarter, You can get two for £8 though so I'd prob go for that if i was after some of these as its a good deal. Each wall works out at just under 4 inches long.

Assembly wise these go together very well and again make good use of layering MDF up to create a good solid structure.

Overall this is a nice little set and when you consider you can get 6 of them for £8 ( on KS ) I think they're very affordable. The design ties in well with the other kits such as the Alpha building and Shipping Containers although i personally would have liked the walls to be slightly taller, but that's just me.

Until next time.
